Dogs
Dog
Today I woke up and decided to write some thing on dogs. How beautiful of creatures they are and how they are a good friends to humans. But then I realized I never adopted a dog, all I know of dogs is from books, videos and friends who had a dog. All that I know is from an external source, I never caressed a dog, never played with one.
Then I started thinking, what it takes to write something about a dog. Maybe, you need to feed one. Maybe, you play with them. Or may be, you need to be chased by one. I’ve been chased by three dogs and five times. I hope that qualifies me to write about a dog, may be.
If I write something, then it will be experiences and information from someone. I will never own it, there is no personal bond for me with dogs. I don’t know anything about them.
I can’t write about dogs.
Then I thought, if I’m not good enough to write about dogs without having that personal bond, what makes me qualified to write about someone, judge someone.
I remember meeting an old man in a cold Delhi evening at airport. We had a chat for about 10mins. I am terrible at small talks but somehow I liked that man. He told me proudly how he managed to educate his daughter even when he can barely meet ends need. He is a proud father of an engineer now.
That simple story stuck with me 6 years now.
I understood one thing, we all live for something, few of us willing to die for something. That something keeps us moving, the world moving. True, sometimes greed takes control but still that something is beautiful.
We can never really write something about someone and we have no right to judge a person. But still we can take a part of their journey which touched you. Keep that little part of the story with you. Take that story to places you go.
May be, that’s how that simple story stuck with me. I am part of that story when that old man decided to share it with me. I own that story now, I hell can keep it.
I understood, that’s all it takes to write a story. You need to be part of it, own it.
Believe it or not, our whole life is about collecting stories. Some of love, some of caution, some of heartbreaks. We learn, unlearn things from their stories. End of the day we end up being stories, that’s all we will be. Make sure you live Well to be a good story.
And your stories need not be great. It could be simple and yet be a good one. Try making simple things consistently and with your 100 percent. You will do fine in life.
May be, that’s what dogs teach us. They do simple things everyday. Same things, but with all their hearts. They give everything, everyday. That’s good.
I think now I can write something on dogs. I’ve taken something from their story.
Now, I own their story, may be.
